Sausage tubes for Antique No. 1 Sausage press?
« on: September 18, 2014, 08:21:35 AM »
I've recently won an auction on an old school sausage press, marked No. 1 that looks similar to this model:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Old-1858-Metal-Cast-Iron-Unusual-Kitchen-Meat-Food-Press-Sausage-Stuffer-/140999424756?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20d4387af4

I was wondering if anyone else had one of these sausage presses and could share their knowledge as far as the sausage tubes go.  I'd like to order different sizes in stainless steel but I'm not sure how exactly these fit on the press??  I haven't received mine in the mail yet but from the pictures it looks like there is a bolt or screw that you unfasten and the front part opens up and you insert the tube in and close it down?

Thanks :)

I am pretty sure companies like Northern Tools, Harbor Freight sells a similar item and the tubes should work, not sure about the stainless steel though. If I understand what you are asking, you raise up the front cone, insert the tube which has a plastic ring/retained moulder on it. Close the cone, and you are good to go.

Pretty much asking for replacement tubes or OEM like tubes.  The item I won doesn't come with one so I don't have anything to go by.

I cannot access the ebay site from work, but I am assuming this "sausage press" is similar to a hand cranked meat grinder in design as far as where the meat exits the press.  There should be a faceplate (round steel with holes) held on by a screw on outer cap.  The sausage tubes show in the link simply fit inside the screw on cap between the faceplate and the cap.  The outside diameter needs to match the diameter of the faceplate.  If there is no faceplate, then the tube diameter must match the inside diameter of the screw on outer cap.

So apparently there is no way to open the front or lock on a tube.  Looks like you just insert a tube inside.

The ones I have seen go on meat grinders like the large Enterprise units. Fit behind the threaded compression ring. This "might" help... http://www.texastastes.com/

I'm going to try and find SS tube manufacturers and just make my own tubes.

That looks like the original tubes I have with some of my old Enterprise sausage grinders.
