Hammered #5 size skillet
« on: February 11, 2014, 06:32:49 PM »
It shows very small hammer marks on the handle and the outside of the sides, heat ring I think on the bottom and smooth cooking surface.   I can see a B at 6 o clock

That would be an OLD Lodge.

Based on what I see I agree with Duke that it could be an old hammered Lodge, good find

Rick, would that be older than the ones with the arched "LODGE"?

There were several combinations of an arched logo with various heat ring styles from 1910 through the 30's(from the RB). Looking at a Lodge list that has dates where certain products were cut, there is a set of 3, 5&8 hammered skillets indicated in ‘37. Lodge still would have been making the single notch skillet with arched logo then. The cut may not indicate that they stopped making all of the hammered skillet sizes indicated, but it does show they were making them at that time.

Like Russell indicated, it could very well have been during the same time period. The arched Lodge without a break in the heat ring most likely is a bit earlier.

I'm in the process of cleaning this pan.  I found a number 5 on the bottom by the notch in the heat ring at 12 o clock.

I think that hammered pattern is some of the finest work Lodge ever did. I have a #8 skillet and a #8 DO and lid in that pattern, beautiful work. Yours should clean up very nicely, under all that crud protecting it. Want to see after pictures.
