Maid of Honor is a Sears Trade Mark, and as such, the items could have been made by just about any company. As far as I know, Griswold never made Maid of Honor items. Lodge did make a few Maid of Honor items for Sears. You may be right about it being a can sealer. One way to find out is to have a look at some of the old Sears catalogs.

It's a canner. First Maid of Honor canner I ever seen. Wished I would have kept hold of my Grand Parent's old canner. They belonged to a "Meat Club" when they were young and used it then. Thinking about it now, that would have been about 100 years ago :o

Really interesting Richard.

Here's a link to one that you can buy today.  Looks pretty much the same, now with an Ives name.

So it looks like the crank goes on top.  Put the can on the lower plate, pull the handle with the name on it down, then turn the crank and roll the lid until sealed.

Always interesting what turns up.

If you can find a source code you can look up who made it for Sears, I did an internet search and found what appears to be the same canner and it has a 612 source code which means it came from Fidelitone.

The source code is the 3 digit number at the beginning of the model number

And at a price tag of $279.00 so I would say you got a pretty good deal for your $2.00 purchase
