Unmarked griddle 8 D
« on: March 05, 2015, 04:41:18 PM »
Hello,

This is the griddle from the iridescence after seasoning thread in the cleaning and restoration forum. Thanks for all of the great help.

I have done about as much for it as I am currently able. I got down to raw etched iron the second go around. Most or all of the iridescence is gone. I am ready to release it into the wild. Any help identifying the approx. age, manufacturer, and rough value would be icing on the cake.

I'd like to know also. A friend has the same griddle & asked me who made it. No clue. It feels heavier/clunky compared to my old gate marked griddle but he loves it for searing a small steak. Sue

Markings remind me of BSR style although the handle doesn't.
The good chefs never burn anything--we call it "culinary brown"!!

I agree with John...looks Lodge New Style to me...

John, what makes you think 1970's?

They were produced since the 30's................

Cheryl - what does the D mean? No way to narrow down the age? Thanks as always, Sue

Not Cheryl, but the 'D' is simply a pattern mark. If a defect is found during QC inspection, they know which pattern to check.
From information posted on the members side, the identity of this item may lean more towards BSR Century series, even though the underside of the handle is not typical for a BSR. Lodge typically puts sizes at 12 o'clock, BSR at 6. The handle is the tricky part, until you find one of these with an original label still on it.
As far as age, 50's to 60's.
