Brad, your 771 #8 long griddle from the 1940's is listed in what we call the Red Book. A book we highly recommend people visiting here to buy. The value gets kind of tricky; since someone drilled a non-factory grease drain hole in yours. The Red Book is a great reference for information, but the values are rather dated. Try searching ebay completed auctions for more current values, but remember that user modifications can have a tragic effect on value of a piece.

Forgot to update this.  This piece tested ok for lead, so I welded up the hole, ground the weld smooth on top and bottom. Then into the E Tank and seasoned!!  But, a pound of bacon will run grease off onto the stovetop!!!  That's ok, I like pancakes!!!

I've got one of those 771 griddles. True, not the best choice for bacon, but for pancakes, french toast and frying eggs it's hard to beat.
 A funny story about mine..my youngest daughter is here visiting from Denver. I go in the kitchen the other morning and she is making breakfast with that griddle..UPSIDE DOWN. Had bacon going on one end and scrambled eggs on the other. She thought it was meant to be used that way because the bottom has higher sides. I somehow stayed calm and instructed her to please use the other side from now on. But after reading this thread, I'm thinking..for a user..why not? It'll keep the grease off your stovetop Brad.  ;D  ;)
