Ozark Cresent #8 value?
« on: November 18, 2013, 05:11:59 PM »
Came across one of these today, and of course, the price tag was gone. Lady said it was probably in the $20-$35 range, and would have to ask the booth owner next time he was in.
Have to say that I was impressed with the quality of the piece. Nice and smooth casting on cooking surface, and I could find no warping, etc, just needs stripped and re-seasoning.

If the bottom is still in good shape its a $20-25 skillet, although there are some apparently gold-plated ones available on ebay. Many of the ones I come across have the sulphur pitting on the bottom from the coal stoves or get warped.  My primary user is a Crescent Ozark 9 skillet with the pitting.  Occasionally you'll come across a piece that will just have the number--usually 25 plus the size of the skillet. E.G. 255=#5, 258=#8.  Some will have UNION MADE near the bottom of the logo on the underneath too.  We did see a couple in chrome at the last Mike Hobbs auction.
The good chefs never burn anything--we call it "culinary brown"!!
