Andresen Plett Pans
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:37:25 PM »
Evening all,
Just looking for some opinions on two finds from a while back. Both are Andresen Plett pans with different logos on the bottom.  Both also have the Griswold pattern number.  I played with the levels a bit since the photos came out darker than I would have liked.   Haven't gotten a chance to clean them yet, been busy with the number 10 griswold I got for a buck at a yard sale :D
Thanks!
~John

Tom N should be along anytime. He knows all about these Andresens. I have a couple of them, along with a waffle, and wafer iron. Nice pieces to. If I remember correctly, these were made by Griswold. Tom will clear it all up though.

Slept in this morning.

Paul Beer and I have been writing about plett pans for a while.  The first chapter covered the Andresen and Western Importing pans.  Andresen started the firm, Western Importing in 1894 then left for unknown reasons in about 1913 or so.  The articles to date are posted in the Casting Call section of the members side of the Forum.  (Chapter 2 covered Griswold, Chapter 3 is coming if I ever get the pictures taken.)

The pan on the left is variation 4.  The one on the right is variation 3 and the first of the Andresen pans we believe Griswold made.  Any with the 2980 number are considered Griswold products.  Probably produced between 1905 and 1910.  Andresen's name was replaced by Western Importing sometime after about 1913.  Variation 3 is a nice heavy pan with a big handle.  Variation 4 is lighter still with a big handle, very similar to the design Griswold used (with a smaller handle) for their marked pans after the finished the Andresen/Western Importing production.

Tom, thanks for the info!
I intend to clean them up and have both going on the stove at once... I"m a big fan of pletts, and these look very well made with smooth indentations.  I got the one on the left for 20 and the one on the right for 5 :)

Glad you like them.  $5 for that old pan is great.  If you ever find one just like that but without the 2980 number, pick it up.  They are uncommon and the most expensive of the Andresen pans.  I really like the design.

John, if you really like these pans, I just noticed that there are several, early Griswold and Andresen (Western Importing) pans on eBay right now.  Reasonable prices.
