This piece is gorgeous!  I found it today at a second hand store... it came with the original "Use and Care Instructions" and description sheet (see attached photos).

These are very late production 80s is about right. The GHC pieces were made in the Wagner plant in Sidney Ohio. Value I'd guess $25, maybe a bit more. Not to much interest in these late items from most collectors.
Gray Iron-- Old as antiquity, new as tomorrow.

Sue, it's not the age of an item of iron cookware that makes it worth less or be less desireable to collectors but the way the piece was cast with less detail, rougher casting and finishing and, often, little thought to design compared with much of the really old iron.  That's probably why most collectors go for the old stuff pre-c.1960.

Above all the most important thing is to like what you collect.  I can enjoy a nice common piece more than a rare piece that I don't like.  Casting quality and style or design are important to me and I like some of my more common pieces a whole lot.

You're SOOO right, Steve!  I'm cleaning up a #9 Iron Mountain pan for a neighbor and that thing is so beautiful I keep thinking up stories so I don't have to give it back!  Something about the handle really appeals to me and the casting is as good as anything else Griswold made.

By the way,  Welcome to WAGS, Sue!
