The bottom piece to my John C Johnson lid
« on: June 02, 2017, 06:50:50 PM »
Well, so far, not so good. This sucker has spent several days in the lye. And 24 hours in the Metal Rescue. I'm going to have to build a bigger e-tank and try that next.

BTW - when the instructions on the Metal Rescue say, "the part must be fully submerged", be sure to pay heed. I put the pot in a five-gallon Home Depot bucket with about two gallons of Metal Restore ... it wasn't fully submerged. I went inside and said, "Honey, I'm going back to Home Depot to buy another galling of that stuff." She said, "Before you go, will you do something for me?" ... By the time I finished my chore, I forgot to go to Home Depot. I bought another gallon the next day and covered it ... but you can still see the line from where it was sitting in there at an angle for 12+ hours. Ugh.

Evaporust is the same way... full submersion is necessary or that permanent line forms.

Last week I was doing a plated bunny, in a plastic box, and I needed a wee bit more EVAPO....

So, I filled up Ziploc FREEZER bags with water, sealed them tight, and placed them in two corners to displace the solution, and raise the level above the bunny!

You get real inventive with the 'expensive' stuff...  ;) ;)

and another word of caution... if you decide to put a piece in the Electro, AFTER having used Evaporust (which contains some Heavy Duty detergent agents),  BE VERY sure you have scrubbed off ALL traces of the chelating agent.

2 years ago, I forgot a piece had been set aside and the Evapo dried on it... sat there until Spring.  I then plopped it in the Electro, and walked away...

Ughhh... I went to check the piece and it looked like a Bubble Bath, with suds n foam flowing out of the electro, all over the Garage floor...  and nasty yellow water in the electro... so... lesson learned!

Pumped the electro out (50 + gallons), rinsed and rinsed, and refilled...... Won't forget again..... ::) ::)
