It's a long shot but...
« on: September 21, 2016, 12:28:44 AM »
A customer of mine has a question about welding cast iron. I am personally not a fan of this method of fixing broken pans, but I told him I would ask for advice.

Is it possible to repair broken cast iron pans into a usable state? If so, does anybody know where he can get it repaired near Lexington, KY?

See the picture for the specific skillet in question.

Thanks in advance!
Jim

Not sure what it would cost, but I would think it would be more to fix it than the cost of another #3 skillet.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Definitely more to fix than buying a new one.   Of course if there is sentimental value, then I could see it.   Really, any welding shop should be able to weld and clean it (the weld) for use.    Chances are it won't be pretty or undetectable but I would think they could make it use able.

From what I have read on the internet (which means it must be true!), welding cast iron properly is neither simple nor cheap, if it can even be done.

Some food for thought at the links below

I think the pan is worth its weight in scrap.

Yeap. That's what I thought.
