Lead in Dutch Oven
« on: July 13, 2016, 06:41:18 PM »
Found a really neat 5" unmarked cast iron dutch oven. After soaking in Lye tank, I noticed what appeared to be small pieces of lead flaking off the side of the pan. I suspect it was lead and the pot may have been used for smelting.  It all appears to be off now but is there a way to make sure it is all gone or is this piece trash?

Posting photos of it would really be helpful. I believe home improvement stores have lead test kits for sale that you can use in this case. I wouldn't call the piece trash. It just may not be fit for food.
