Living Proof Grinders And Cast Iron Don't Mix
« on: April 28, 2016, 09:10:45 PM »
From the auction text:
"The inside of the pans are pewter/silver in color."

Notice how they are not seasoned either, well, except for the unground parts. Doesn't look like their little grinding experiment worked.

Yeah... there are a bunch of yahoos out in Facebookland who profess to be experts on making the New Lodge items "nice and smooth"  in their homemade shops... or kitchens.

At least it was a new Lodge and not a vintage piece.

Yes.  But just think of the confusion 50 or 60 years from now... ;D ;D :D

No confusion, somehow somewhere a copy of this forum will be embedded in Alphabetland Search Engine and they will find the truth.

A little heavy handed don't you think?
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

Hello Dwayne. This is like saying Bonnie and Cyde were not friendly customers at the bank.  ;D

That all seems to.be a little excessive.  I recently took a grinder to my new production Lodge no 10 skillet.  It cooks like a champ now.   Super non stick.  In my defense, I had little to lose considering I had previously warped this thing to the point of almost being able to eat cereal out of it.

All seasoned up

Cooking cornmeal mush and eggs

No mess. :)

Tommy, it would have cooked like a champ without the alteration!  Just a little bit of patience for that rougher surface to fill in with seasoning and become smoother. ;)

I agree Cheryl. I've never had a problem with a new Lodge.

I didn't have a problem with it.  Other than the fact the bottom was so warped that water pools in the center.   I just wanted to play with it and test out the grinding smooth theory.    I didn't go very fine and I certainly ly didn't polish it but with one or 2 coats of crisco, it is ridiculously slick.    I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't already damaged.  Plus, now I'm using it as a trainer pan for my beautiful wife to learn cooking on cast iron.  ;D
