  • WAGS: The heartbeat of cast iron collecting.
I have a L S Bacon waffle iron I was told was  manufactured between 1843 and 1853.

If I clean it with a lye bath or electrolysis, only, with no brushes will it diminish its value.

I just want to make sure before I bathe it in lye.
Sincerely
Chris Miller

In my opinion no. If you are cleaning it with acceptable methods I do not see how it would damage the piece or the value.

If you are non-abrasively restoring the piece, you are increasing the value of it as well as preserving it.

If you know what you are doing cleaning it enhances the value of the piece. Likewise if you clean it like some of the folks we have seen come on here then you are killing the value of the piece. I think the other responses are the same thing.  :)
