Wagner 1510 restoration
« on: April 01, 2015, 10:55:27 PM »
I recently picked up a Wagner 1510 baking pan that was a little rough... I cleaned it with electrylosis and was disappointed to see some pretty prolific pitting on the cooking surface of the pan. I am new to cast iron and was wondering what I could do (if anything) and how badly it affects the collectibility and value of the item. Any advice and information would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Ron, and welcome!

Pictures would be helpful, for certain.

I do not recommend 'doing' anything.

Value and collectability are greatly affected with less than perfect/excellent condition.

Need some pics though to see how prolific it is....

Most of my users are pitted, or less than perfect.

Seasoning should fill in the pitting, hopefully.  :)

I wasn't sure if the seasoning would fill it in or not, thanks for the info!

I have attached a couple photos, I pulled it from the Etank and gave it a scrub down with a scotch bright pad, then gave it a coat of crisco seasoning. Has some darks spots too I was hoping would even out with more seasoning

Hello Ron. If you figured out how to post dual pictures here with an IPAD I ALREADY DON'T LIKE YOU.  ;D

And your pan, yes those are very collectible in fact. I don't know, without looking, which one you have, I mean, yes I see the number, but there are at least two more, maybe three in fact, in this set. Alright, I'll look. Well, the BB value says 150.00 to 200.00. Now of course that would be in excellent condition. I think the BB value is low on these pieces. They are not very common. And yours, yes its pitted some, but not that bad. Is it still collectible, I'd say certainly yes. And if you choose to use it that pitting will fill in nicely. In fact if you are going to keep it and use it, then just keep seasoning it until they fill in, and they will fill in. Its a nice piece. Thanks for posting it.  :)

Thanks form the reply!

I am going to keep it as a user I believe, now I would really like to have the rest of the set! I've been reseasoning it every time I do a new piece since I'm already heating the oven up, so hopefully it will continue to get better!

This one measures 13"x18.5" (at the top edge) what other sizes did they come in?

Thanks again for your reply, I appreciate it! :D
