17 1/2 inch cast iron lid
« on: September 17, 2025, 08:32:21 PM »
This large cast iron lid was found while metal detecting. It is large, heavy and missing the handle. Any ideas as to who made it, etc.?

It might not be a lid. It might be part of a manway hatch for some kind of  tank.

I assumed it was a large commercial cooking pot. You could make a big stew in a pot that size.

With Russell on this one. I have seen plates something like this on boiler type vessels.

I think you're right! I've never seen one, but I looked it up and see the similarity. I hate it's not off a pot but I've learned something today. Thanks again.
