Latest Firefox Update (57.0) Problem?
« on: November 25, 2017, 08:03:03 PM »
I'm a long time Firefox user but got very angry at it last week when it updated to the newest release, Quantum (v. 57.0).  It would freeze my screen, would not let me close it, was very slow with tab and page changes.  Thought it was my internet connection for a while but soon figured out it was not.

Found out I was not alone, but most folks did not have a problem.  I couldn't get it to work right so I started preparing Microsoft Edge to use and abandon my old friend.

Decided to try it once more with a fix that was working for some folks on the Mozilla support forum.  It worked and the new version performs for me just fine.

Here is the fix: (the firefox menu is the 3 bars near the upper right corner)

Go to the firefox menu [ch8801] > options > privacy & security panel and under permissions check the setting to prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser.

That's all it took.

Tom........if all else fails, I have went back to this page and installed a previous version of Firefox.  I went back and installed Firefox 56 and cured any problems I had.

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/

I also use an addon...Theme Font & Size Changer for Firefox & Thunderbird and have had a hard time getting it to work with newer versions of Firefox.  The fix was to revert back to the Addon version 56 and everything has worked fine.

Thanks Jerry.

That fix I posted did the trick for me.

I had gone back to an even earlier version of Firefox that they have for large organizaitons.  52.5.0esr .  They promise support until at least May, 2018, plus it will not automatically update to a newer version.

I just rely on the hold the ctrl key and mouse scroll button to resize the images.

Here's a link to the esr version, just scroll down to the English US version to download.

Things like this just fortify my opinion that the people who design things today, especially computer programs, are NOT the ones that have to use what they design..... ;D

I had to do a System Restore over 3 weeks ago after the stoopid Firefox update...  I am now ignoring the Firefox requests to update... They have really screwed the pooch lately with their updates...

I had actually installed Chrome before I did the system restore...

And will do so again once I have more time on my hands....

It is becoming redunkulous... with each Software update... whether Windows, or Browsers, or any others.......  >:( >:( >:(
