The main problem that I have Windows at present is that Firefox constantly crashes because of "unresponsive script". I'm getting so po'd with Firefox and the scripts. I'm rebooting Firefox all the time now and none of the 'fixes' for this problem have worked (increase script time to run; Yes Script add on; etc.)

I kept my Windows 8.1, and continue to have the same problem BUT... the script crashes are with Internet Explorer 11. Constant never ending....

I have now switched to Firefox, and have not had any issues... yet.

Go Figure.......

In the process of updating the seldom used desktop with Windows 7 (a 48 hour process), suddenly that desktop now qualifies for a Windows 10 Free Update ??  AFTER July 29?   Nooo... make it stop...  :D

I have had a computer since 94 or 95 and started with Window 95.  Windows XP and Windows 7 have been the best and most stable for me.  I have Windows 7 64 bit on my desktop and laptop.  Last summer I got an announcement that I qualified for an "OPTIONAL" update to Windows 10.  From all I had read and heard from others, I didnt want it.  I have always had my Windows Update set to Notify me of updates, but let me choose.  At first, the Windows 10 updates began showing up as Optional, but few weeks later it disappeared, but if I saw a Recommended Windows 7 update that I decided to use and clicked ok on it, it would auto start downloading Windows 10.  I immediately stopped the download.  Microsoft had imbedded the auto upgrade in my Windows 7 updates.  So much for "Optional"!  I tried everything I know to get rid of it to no avail.  Long story short, I finally found a Free program someone created named GWX10 (GetWindows10).  I downloaded it and it removed all traces of of the sneaky software that Microsoft put on my computer and continues to monitor if they try it again.....Thank Goodness!  Since then I can download and install what updates I want for my Windows 7.
I'm really sick of companies like Microsoft and Google trying to control your computers.  My SIL gave my wife a Samsung Tablet for Christmas a year ago, and Google would not let you use it until you signed up for a Google email address?  She plays some games on her tablet, but they will not work on the tablet saying it needed Flash Player.  I found out that Google stopped allowing Adobe Flash player for Android so you have to use Google and play their games.  They are also connected in some way because if you block google on her game on our computer, it also blocks Adobe on her game and it stops playing.  I think they work together to gather personal info.

I saw on the news this week that Google is going to stop reading your emails and go to an algorithm system to read your emails for trends or products your talking about to sell mailing lists to ad companies.  It said they had been reading emails since 2004. That should be illegal, IMO!!
I also have been using a NO tracking free program that seems to be blocking attempts by various tracking websites to gather information off my computer.

I use ABP(ad blocker plus) and Ghostery and love them, I will occasionally get a message that one of them has blocked something I am trying to do and I simply whitelist them and no further problems :D

I have a laptop I keep as a spare and I just dropped it off at my local computer guru and he is installing Ubuntu/linux on it, I tried it on a friends laptop and I liked it just as much as my windows XP

I've used AdBlocker for a long time, and I also have been using "Disconnect" along with ABP.  Disconnect can refuse/block Tracking websites that want information from your computer.

https://disconnect.me/

I bought a new Laptop last year, and if you go to every retail outlet in my town, all of the laptops, and probably Desktops too, have Windows 10.  So I went online to the manufacturers website and was able to order what I wanted including Windows 7.  The laptop I wanted offered Windows 7 Pro, and like other so-called Microsoft upgrades, I see little difference in it and Windows 7 Home thats on my Desktop.  All they noticeably did was just move some things around making it more aggravating to find.
At least, by ordering a laptop, I got Windows 7 along with a disc.  I also took off things I didnt want, and added things I did want and that customized the laptop for me, and at a sale/reasonable price, that I couldn't buy off the shelf in stores here.  I know Windows 7 will soon be on Microsoft's obsolete list, but so has other versions but they still work, and I dont worry much about their "Security updates.

I'm no computer expert, but the store I deal with, told me that W10 was troublesome, and advised me to stay with W7, but if I wanted W10, doing an upgrade will cause issues; what you must do is "uninstall" all others , then install W10 from scratch; I know a couple of people who had success doing it this way.

Good luck.

I picked the laptop up I had Linux installed on and I love it, everything works and it is easy to use, A few quirks that take a little getting used to but once you use it for a while you wonder why you ever bothered with Windows. ::)
