Yeah! I can use the Forum again.
« on: January 08, 2017, 02:22:25 PM »
For the last 3 or 4 years, sometime around September or October, my response time for the Forum becomes obnoxiously slow - like 30 seconds to load a page.  The WAGS home page comes up fast, but interacting with the Forum - reading or posting messages, is just horrible.  So bad, I hate to even bother.

At one time we checked with the host and found nothing.  Put a trouble ticket in with my ISP.  No problems.

The issue has to do with how the magic internet cloud routes my traffic.  There is a server somewhere that gets inserted into my route to the Forum that is slow.

This stays around until after the first of the year.

Today, I'm back to normal.  Someone hit a pole down the street this morning (result of a small ice storm we are having).  No power for 8 hours.  Power came back, and so did the Forum.

Should be good until next Fall.

Tom

I have found that by routinely clearing my browsing data(cookies, downloaded cached paged etc ) that my machine runs at a pretty decent pace, when you lost power and rebooted this may have cleared some of that old cached data.

My machine is an old Dell Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz 2.0 GB Ram
Running Windows XP on Google Chrome

Comcast cable with a NetGear C6300 Modem/Router
My Local Area Connection speed is 100Mbps

I stopped getting updates from Microsoft years ago when they stopped supporting Windows XP and Google Chrome stopped sending updates about a year ago.

Honestly I have been reluctant to upgrade to a newer operating system because the one I have works so well

We have a laptop with windows 7 and I hate it.

I am considering  Linux when this old beast finally quits

Anyway I am glad your machine is back up to speed

Yes, I've done the trace and seen the problem.  That's pretty much how we figured out it was not the WAGS host or my ISP.  I've always been told that I can't control the routing >:(.  Wish I could.

Valerie, it only affects my access to the Forum.  Everything else is lightning fast, well lightning fast for DSL.  Too far out in the woods for cable, but I did upgrade bandwidth last year (when I got a 4K tv).

I do appreciate your suggestions though.
