Flooded in NC
« on: October 13, 2016, 03:55:28 PM »
Not nearly as badly as a lot of folks.  Our lower level in Corolla, NC had water in it for the second time in three weeks.

Trapped on OBX because of the flooding.  Was able to finally drive through flood waters and leave at 11:45 AM on Monday.  Arrived home 12:20 AM Tuesday.

Company is supposed to be at the house today to set up drying equipment again.  At least there's no demo work this time, and the lowest level was down to studs and exterior sheathing to 4'.  Had 4 1/2 in there three weeks ago.  About 6" Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Started to come in at 11:20 AM Saturday night.  Oddly enough, it seemed to peak at 3:30 AM Sunday and had already receded 1" by 5:30 AM with the storm still going on.   :-?

Looks like someone may have also had an improperly hooked up generator backfeeding the grid since two LED nightlights still worked.  I was stumped as to why they would work!

Paul, sorry you are going through all this.  I experienced flooding in Houston more than once.  I heard about people wiring generators into their outlets or wiring them into their breaker boxes to power their homes.  Like you said the problem was that power flowed in both directions and would shock the people trying to repair the lines and get the power flowing again.  sounds like just what happened to you there.

Nan and I spent Sunday driving around Corolla checking on folk's homes for them and taking pictures.  We couldn't get out anyway, and thought people would feel better if they had reports from someone that was there.

Just about all homes looked o.k. with very minor things like debris in pool, cedar tree leaning, a few shingles lifted, etc.

There were two homes that we couldn't get to because of flooding.  One had water three weeks ago and probably got it a lot worse this time.  :-[
