Numbers on round Broilers
« on: October 14, 2019, 11:10:06 AM »
I picked up a nice old round broiler and after some cleaning noticed it has a number on the handle, The number 4 1/2, I started researching and looking for other examples and found some other examples that has similar numbers, Do these numbers correspond to a stove eye size(they seem too big).
Anyway...here are a few pics...still cleaning it was really cruddy. I am guessing the piece was made circa late 1800's early 1900's based upon the handle style and gate mark, It is very light and is a very smooth casting.

Looks like the older numbering system. Typically 0-4, later they went to the size of the stove eye hole.
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

Dwayne, Of the ones I was able to find on the web I saw another 4 1/2 like this one and another one that looked the same but the handle had 5 - 5/12 on it. The 5 -5 1/2 was a bit larger than mine.

Tom...Yes it caught my eye and I grabbed it up...have no idea if I will ever use it
