Wapak #7 the size of a #6
« on: April 28, 2019, 09:12:24 PM »
I have acquired what I thought was an encrusted #6 Wapak Chief skillet with a great, crisp logo/lettering. After a lye bath and electrolysis. the pan bears a #7 but has the dimensions of a #6. I have compared both pans side by side and they're identical except for the size.  Is this pan a re-cast?  if so, how would one cast a #6 pan and then affix the #7 number?  If not, How would a #6 pan end up with a #7 number?

Howdy Chris! Can you provide a picture of the 'top' side view of the pans please, so we can see the numbers on the handles... :)

PS... Don't be afraid to go a little 'bigger' on the picture size... I usually go with 1366 x 768 as long as the total file size is 500 KB or less..  ;)

PS... it looks like the handle styles are different also... which is a known fact with the Indianhead skillets....

Chris, you might want to check out this thread that sheds some light on the handle and size differences:

Thanks Chris :)

There are many documented differences in Wapak pieces.

The why and how may never be known with any certainty.

It is my impression that Wapak was not very diligent with quality control nor with consistency of products over time.

The only Wapak Catalog that I have (circa 1912) shows a #7 with a Bottom diameter of 81/4 inches. (and there is ambiguity how these skillets were marked... were they Indianheads? or Block Logo? )   :question-marks:

Looking at your pics, both skillets appear to be genuine Wapak Indianhead #7 skillets, reasons for differences in actual size... may never be known.

Chris, I am hoping that some Indian experts stop by also...

I just wish we could find more WAPAK catalogs!  .... then we 'might' have more basis for comparison over the time of production...  :)
