Is this pan Asian?
« on: January 11, 2017, 10:02:05 PM »
I haven't seen a pan like this one before.  The handle seems odd...is it an Asian pan?

Hi Donna.

Usually, silence means  "I don't know".. :)

With the "7 INCH" markings and the design, I would say it is a newer, Modern product, and therefore Asian.

Donna, speaking only for myself, I am reluctant to condemn a product as "Asian" made without proof so I stay silent unless I know.

Personally I like this skillet, If the price was reasonable I would not be afraid to purchase it, The markings on the bottom are strange, It says 7. INCH but underneath that it has a number 2 which does not correspond to the 7 inch size so the number is either a mold number or a shift indicator or something else,It has a full unbroken(unnotched) inset heat which is a plus in my book

Looking at the top of the skillet it looks to have reasonably thin walls and a smooth cooking surface and 2 nice large pour spouts, The handle  seems a little strange but looks to be ergonomically designed to fit  nicely in your hand.

It could be Asian but the Asian pieces I have seen are usually a little rougher and less refined than this piece, It could be from Mexico/Central/South America, It could be European or Scandinavian.

The "7 INCH" marking does make one think it is a newer post 1960's piece.

I would say it has more user value than collector value

But if the price was right and I was in the market for a 7" skillet I would not be afraid to purchase it.

Just my opinion

I am a collector of over 40 years, but only Griswold, therefore that's where my interest lies. So, like Cheryl, I don't know.

Mom had one like that same red handld, but larger size. She got it at a hardware store if I remember correctly, but no idea on the maker.
