If you have any cast iron pieces that have been repaired,  would you please post some pictures of it?

Once the old seasoning was removed, it revealed this brazen attempt to fix a pour spout crack by brazing and grinding. The grinding was rather heavy handed and careless in some places.
But the third photo shows that from a distance, it still looks nice.

I love that skillet, especially the handle, I would have purchased a skillet like that because of how nice it looks...price considering of course.

Here are a few links about welding/brazing cast iron and why some repairs fail.

Okay, I'm coming out of the closet here, I have some repaired cast iron. Against all the wisdom here I bought this one because i didn't have a 9 at the time and it was reasonable.
We have used this for years and I have never doubted it's ability to do the job.

This one I bought on ebay and the seller shipped it with 3 pieces of newspaper for packing, I posted pics at the time. The seller was unapologetic and said it was the shipper (usps) who mishandled it. I received my money back from ebay, seller didn't want it back.
I took it to my welder and after a hearty round of what the hell is wrong with you...he repaired it.
I use this from time to time with a married lid and again have not worried about the repair.

Not mine, but I sure like it. Older repair with that square nut.

Found this beauty in a pawn shop. The lid handle had snapped off and the previous owner thought enough of it to repair it using an U Bolt rather than discarding it.

Dwayne, your post reminded me about another piece I forgot about. I bought a #12 3-notch skillet with raised molder mark several years ago. It came with this repaired lid. Originally, it had a brass cabinet handle on it, but the clearance on it wasn’t big enough to risk picking up the weight that this #12 lid carries with it. I put a new cabinet handle with the same screw placement spacing on it. Now anyone can get a good grip on it.

Is that the threaded end of a black pipe they used for the handle?

Some of the fixes look less expensive and more durable than the original item, especially the U bolt handles on the lids, I am all for repairing things when practical...I have a rather expensive digital camera that the latch to the battery compartment broke, The camera was just out of warranty and replacement parts were not practical so I have a plastic zip tie that holds the battery compartment door closed...has been working that way for over 5 years
