Lodge #14 Deep Camp oven
« on: November 06, 2016, 01:11:12 AM »
Thought I'd do one of those facebook type posts ;)

What's a good price these days?
Brand new in the box (opened), "original" unseasoned finish.

When did Lodge stop offering the unseasoned CI?

I think 2010 was the last year for gray iron, I bought one of mine in July that year, $49.99, but last time I checked they were north of $116.xx, then production stopped and prices went high.  This summer I was talking to a dealer who had just returned from a visit with  Bob Kellerman and he said that the new foundry would enable Lodge to bring back all the discontinued items, so we will see.

Pre-seasoning of some cookware started in 2002 - this is according to Lodge in their catalog #10. Does anyone have a 2002 catalog? We do not have a PDF of one posted.
Catalog #9 which came out in 2005 has original finish (non-seasoned) cookware offered.
Catalog #10 which came out in January 2006 only lists seasoned cookware. It does not list any original finish products.
While vendor inventory may not have been depleted post 2005, it would appear that 2005 was the last year Lodge made any original finish (non-seasoned) cookware for sale. Starting in 2006, it was all pre-seasoned.

This thread:
http://www.griswoldandwagner.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1251495938/all

was bumped up by Cheryl a while back. There are 2 different themes running through it. One is finish in terms of grinding or polishing, which according to Lodge ended in 1997. Note that the 2000 catalog PDF posted still mentions polished skillets are available.
The other discussion tries to determine when Lodge stopped offering plain finish items (non-seasoned), making the change to all pre-seasoned cookware.

There should be a date on the shipping label
