wagner no7 waffle maker
« on: September 23, 2016, 07:52:11 PM »
I bought a Wagner no7 waffle maker at an antique store in Havre Grace, Md for $20. my question is how do I season it after cleaning?
Do I put it in the oven at 350F or do I do it on my gas stove. I don't want to ruin the wood by baking it for 1 hour. please advise me what's the best way.

The handles unscrew. There is a screw in the end, it is a common slotted screw. Then just clean and season as you would any other cast iron.

Thanks. Some firm twisting and bingo. There will be some delicious waffles coming soon. Any tips on using it?

My tip is use a yellow cake mix to make waffles. That and a dallop of vanilla ice cream is pretty darn good.

I have gas burners. What about cooking times on each side? I know a lot is trial and error.

I use an infrared thermometer and when the iron reaches 450 it is time to pour close and flip I let them set for two mins then flip again set two minutes and remove. I am using a high base. So these are just get started times figure on the first couple to go to the dogs, they will love you. I use the no stick recipe found in the cookiking section of the forum. Also a quick spritz of PAM bethween waffles helps a lot.
