Erie, pre Griswold 6 A pan
« on: August 10, 2016, 09:33:13 AM »
I've searched the internet & eBay Trying to find information on this skillet and couldn't find anything about this skillet.  It was my Grandmothers and is in good shape except for some carbon buildup on the bottom.  Is it rare or what?  Any information will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!  Jim

ERIE skillets are not really "pre-Griswold".  They are Griswold, but just made at a time when they were marked only with ERIE.  Does it have pattern number 699?  I looked at ebay completed listings and found one that sold for $78.  They are not common, but I wouldn't call them rare as they show up from time to time.

Jim you may find this helpful, as there were several different "series" of Erie Skillets.

Picture are always helpful as "ERIE"'s  can get a bit complicated.  :)

Like I said it's just marked 6 A, not 699.  I saw afew on eBay with that number.  I tried attaching a picture but this site wouldn't take it as it said the image was to large and being self taught on the computer I don't know how to reduce the image size.  I'm pretty sure this skillet is pre 1900's.

It most likely is a first or second series ERIE.  :)

Jim, Griswold made the 6 Erie marked with the 6 and a letter, marked with PN 699, and with pn 700. They are all nice pieces to own, but not really rare. In the pre E-Bay days these skillets could bring $300 +, but now, as Cheryl notes, a lot less.
