My garage sale finds from this weekend. Did I do alright?
« on: June 05, 2016, 12:15:35 PM »
Got this no 3 BSR.  It was already cleaned up and looking nice. I got it to go with my no 5 skillet and my square skillet I have been using, both BSR and my new cornstick pan that's also BSR.  It's marked "3G1"  my question about this little guy is what's up with the heat ring?  One spot is flattened out a little bit.  Does this mean it was a poor molding of it?  Is it a reproduction?

Picked up this Wagner no 3.  It appears to be in pretty good shape but pretty crusty.    I currently have it soaking in oven cleaner.   It is marked 1053Z.

Last but not least, the rusty BSR cornstick pan.  I brought it home and soaked it for 2 hours in a 50/50 vinegar bath, removed it, scrubbed it with ss scrubber, soaked for another hour, detail cleaned with ss brush, washed, rinsed, rinsed again, dried, seasoned with crisco.

Hello Tommy. It looks like you did good. The flat spot on the heat ring of the number three is just something that happens sometimes. And the inspector just sends it on past because it is nothing at all, and it is nothing at all. So enjoy it. And no I do not believe it is a reproduction at all.

And you did a marvelous job on cleaning and seasoning the cornstick pan. When you start to take in 'cleanings and seasonings' let me know. I got a boatload of iron that needs that.  :-[

And again congratulations on your garage sale finds.  :)

Thanks Perry.  I believe I heard a story or two about you this weekend as well. I learned a ton of stuff from a fellow Wags member this weekend. He is who I picked up the BSR skillet from. I did not figure that it was a reproduction, I just threw it out there as an option. His name is escaping me at the moment, but I do have his card at home. He told me how great of a person you are and that he has known you for some time through shows and flea markets and sales and such.  I am really having a good time picking the stuff out, cleaning it up, seasoning it, and eventually cooking on it. It is really fun.

Hello Tommy. Now don't believe EVERYTHING that you may hear about me out there. I made bail and the charges were dropped for lack of evidence but it didn't look too good for awhile. My lawyer came to see me in jail. He told me that he thought we had a good case but in the meanwhile he suggested that I try to escape.  :o ::) ;D

Hahaha.  All good things.  All good things. I used the corn stick pans tonight and made homemade corndogs.   Delicious.

Hello again Tommy. Me and Cheryl goes back a long way. I have been trying to talk her into being one of my Pennsylvania Mistresses. I recently had a vacancy created there in PA and I am trying to get her to fill the vacancy. She comes with good recommendations and I have been sweet on her for some time. AND the little lady is the best cast iron cleaner this side of the Pocono Mountains. And that's saying something ya know.  :)

Here is the Wagner No 3 skillet halfway through the easy off bath.

Here's the lil guy all cleaned up.

It has a couple little pits in it but I don't think they are going to affect anything as I will be using this one quite a bit.

I'm gonna chalk this one up as another win for me. Got it for $8 and had fun cleaning it up.   Now I can't wait to cook in it.  :D

Question about my Wagner No 3 skillet. Is the handle supposed to go up a little bit as opposed to sticking straight out from the skillet?

Don't worry Tommy, you didn't get a bent one. That's just the design of it.

Tommy if you hang with this cast iron you will soon get rid of the easy off oven cleaning method and start using lye. Otherwise you will go broke.  ;D ;D ;D

This is already in the works.   I have used my last can of easy-off.  I have since started a pile of iron that will need to be soaked in my lye bath (once I make it).  So far the pile is only 2 more corn stick pans but hey, it's a start. :)
