Sometimes You Just Have To Buy It
« on: June 01, 2016, 11:54:42 AM »
I wanted to post a couple more recent Spring antique festival finds. It’s not like I’ve been searching for them for a long time, and I finally found them. It’s more like, “Hey, these are great examples of vintage cast iron, and they’re a great deal.”
How could anyone pass these up?

The first is a #10 heat ring Wagner skillet. It is in amazing condition. In the photos, I have tried to capture the ghost marking by the pattern number. “10 c” has been filled in, and it was replaced by the standard “1060" catalog number. It was priced to sell, and the seller was so eager, he lowered the price to the point I couldn’t pass it up. There is no warp, and this skillet sits flat whether it’s hot or cold.
Would you pass it up?

The next piece is a #8 Favorite Piqua smiley with heat ring. Do I really need another #8 skillet? No, I don’t. But the quality of this piece is outstanding. Where I picked up this skillet, there were several examples of cast iron no one should buy. They were rusted, pitted, some even cracked and broken. The sellers were asking good money for a lot of scrap value iron too. I came upon this piece, and I figured it would be warped or cracked. Nope. Once I got it cleaned up, you can even see plenty of factory grinding marks still on the sides and cooking surface. I was concerned that this piece might want to start to spin when brought up to cooking temperature on the stove. I have a #10 Favorite that does that. But this #8 still sits dead flat. This is a keeper. Glad I didn’t pass that one up? How many times have you said, “I knew I should have bought that piece?” Here’s one time I did not have to say that.

You're not alone Honey.  :-[

Cheryl the next time I see you we will have to sit in a circle with some of our other friends and just let it all out. 'It all started for me with an innocent little number three Wagner smooth bottom skillet, vintage 1959, I'll never forget it, it had curves like a model, fine lines, and silky smooth in all the right places, and before I knew it one was not enough, and pretty soon I was looking at every one I seen, how was I to know there were all the different variations and I wanted them ALL ALL ALL, and so my friends that is how I eventually ended up here, and I was hoping you all brought examples'.  :-[ :-[ ;D ;D

Yep... we will.   On the Arooga's outdoor patio... maybe they'll let us build a camp fire !  :)   ::)

OH, and Russell. If it was me, I'd have for sure bought the Wagner, the Favorite probably not.  :)
