Auction find
« on: January 17, 2016, 03:29:48 PM »
I wound up with three skillets at a local auction for the opening bid.  Not sure of the manufacturer, and aside from being very crusty they appear to be in good shape.  Can anyone identify them?

Better pics of the marks would be nice, but I'd say Favorite, Lodge and Wagner. Others who are more experienced might differ.

The Lodge and Wagner I agree with. The Favorite, I agree with also but I hear folks arguing about it. So I'm not as strong on the Favorite as the other two.

Agreed. And I can't make out the number in the diamond--doesn't look like a 7 to me. Chicago Foundry, or did they just do hammered?

Got better pics of the second one?

just looked at all my CHF diamond skillets.  when they are laying in the same position as you show in your first picture, they are marked with number inside the diamond, and the letter to the right.  your skillet is just the opposite.  you could hang yours by the handle and it would read properly.  all of mine are opposite.   just throwing this info out there.

We still do not know who made the Size in diamond skillets.  (Not conclusively), and Marge is correct, something looks one off with this one.  Maybe once it is cleaned up, it will be clearer.. :)

It looks like a backwards number 5 in the diamond and a backward letter B next to it.
On the skillet with the 3 notch heat ring the handle looks different than lodges I have seen as well as the area outside the heat ring if much flatter, generally the 3 notch lodges there is more of a rounded edge to the skillet from the heat ring as it turns to go up the side of the skillet.

The three notch does not look right for Lodge either...

I suspect an Asian Reproduction... the flatness of the handle...

Once cleaned, it may be clearer... :)

I vote LODGE on the 2nd one. They did some "different" variables 40-50 years ago [smiley=shrug.gif]
