Broken gem pan - Need Advice
« on: April 15, 2015, 08:45:04 PM »
I was so disappointed when this pan arrived broken. The box looked like it was dropped off a cliff.  The seller barely put any packing materials in the box. I decided to keep it and agreed to pay $40 for it, probably more than it is worth now but I will actually use it instead of just adding it to my collection.

So, my thoughts were to cut away the remaining handle (hopefully not breaking the pan in the process) and sand the edge smooth. Any other suggestions?

I would return it. Was it insured? The seller or Post Office need to pay for that. It will be an awkward pan to handle if you really plan to try to bake with it.
Plus, it is not worth $40, even as a user, with a broken handle.
That's my stand.

You are right should have sent it back. The seller did not insure it. I had the option to return it but I chose to keep it, I have been looking for a 240 for a while.

I would for sure get my money back! If they refund & say to keep it, find a good welder. I use a guy who works on my race car & when he's done you really have to search for the seam. Just cover the line with a spot of high-temp engine paint.

Ok got nearly all of my money back. I cut the remaining portion of the handle off and ground down the rest. Almost not detectable that the handle was ever there. The result = still crap but useable crap.

I agree with John. I have no use for broken iron either as a display or user.
Hold still rabbit, so I can cook you.
