Unusual skillet-anyone ever seen anything like it?
« on: February 18, 2015, 08:50:40 AM »
I have an opportunity to acquire this, but I have no clue if it's just a homemade recent novelty or really as old as it looks. Opinions?

These are the only photos I have.

That's really strange looking.  I'd want to handle it.  Really doesn't look that old to me, but I'm just looking at the pictures.

Almost looks like the handle was made from a piece of diamond plate and welded on.

That was the first thing I thought also, Could possibly be a real old piece that the handle broke off of and they replaced it with what they had laying around, It appears to be beyond any usable condition and if it does not have any markings in my opinion it is suitable for a planter outside and not much more, Is it actually cast iron or is it made from a piece of forged steel, The side walls look pretty thick,
For me it is not something I would invest much time or money in.

Yep, me too. Also looks like it was cast in a dirt mold as opposed to sand.     ;D

Thanks folks!  I figured as much, but I haven't been around enough to know for sure, so I LOVE the experience you all have!

if $5.00 or under, no harm in getting it. i imagine we have all lost $5.00 or more buying something.
it would be a very cheap lesson at the least.

You know, Perry, my wife gives me "that look" whenever I walk in with a new CI piece.  I would really get "that look" if I walked in with a piece like this one :D
