Uknown Piece
« on: February 03, 2015, 03:42:02 PM »
So I picked up this piece this weekend it was in pretty rough shape but the price was right, after cleaning it up it has a 4 on the handle and X O on the underside of the handle. It has an inset Heat Ring - I have set it next to a few #4's that I had and the only one it matched up with size wise was a Griswold Large Block #4 - it was smaller than the No Notch Lodge #4 and barely larger than my No Notch Lodge #3 I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about this one aside from UFO (Unidentified Frying Object)

A similar skillet was discussed here a while back and nothing conclusive ever came of it.  I thought it may have been an unmarked Crescent Foundry (St. Louis) skillet because Crescent put the size on some of their skillets closer to the hang hole (like yours).  Note -- that's just a theory/opinion... there's nothing concrete to back it up.

I would have never guessed to look at that Foundry - I did an eBay search and came up with a #3 that is fully marked but looks just like my 4 except my 4 isn't marked
