Wagner #1066A - Help
« on: November 26, 2014, 01:13:51 PM »
Hi, I'm new to the forum so howdy all!

My wife was recently at an antique shop and found a cast iron skillet for a few bucks and picked it up for me as she knows I am fan of the cast iron.

Anyways, it's a Wagner Ware #1066A (see attached pictures [hopefully I did that right]). From what I can tell it was made between '35 and '59. However, I can't find any of them anywhere.

So, either this skillet is so rare that no one has it or everyone has it and thus it has no value and I can safely use it as a home defense device or flower pot.

Do I attempt to restore it and risk losing value or do I hold it as it and hold out that it's worth a good amount?

Hello Nate, and Welcome to WAGS!

Restoring Cast Iron Cookware will not cause any lose in value, but will in fact, increase the value of a piece.... IF DONE properly!

Check out our Cleaning and Restoration board for information and advice on Proper methods to restore your CI.

Your Wagner is not uncommon, and looks like it may have condition issues with some pitting(?) but will still make a nice user once restored.  Blue book value is $25-$35 in excellent condition, so valuation decreases with condition issues.

Well that's both good and bad news. The bad news is that now I have to apply some elbow grease to get the value hehe, but oh well.

Sounds like fun to me. You are correct, there is some serious pitting, but alas....eggs and bacon always taste better in cast iron :)

Odd...my blue book doesn't list a 1066. Is that a 10 on the handle? If so it should be a 1060. That will make a great user, Nate. Needs a lye bath and electrolysis though. There are other options, if you don't want to set those up. See ya in the C & R board soon, ha.  ;)

Mark, you are correct on the numbers....
My attention and eyesight are questionable lately... ::) ::)

Looks like a #10 on top of handle...

Would be 1060, revised book value.... $35 - $45......
