Double boiler??
« on: October 10, 2014, 10:05:33 AM »
Hey folks, we’re new to cast iron collecting; does anyone has any interest in shedding light on a recent incomplete acquisition?
We don’t have a lid, but there should be a fitted one (10 ¼’’).
The main part is a bottom-less pot with no markings (9 3/4’’ across bottom, x 4’’ deep).  Within this bit, a flat removable bottom fits that has the Wagner Ware drip drop design on the outer side.  Looking at the lip on the outside bottom of the main part (blue arrows), it looks like there should be a second pot to fit under the removable bottom.  Any idea as to what this is?? A double boiler with the bottom missing? Thanks kindly for any insight (sorry... we haven't cleaned it up yet)!

Hi Jan. It appears you have pieces to Wagner's Combination Cooker, the center piece and the false bottom. I have only seen aluminum one's, are these pieces iron?
The Wagner Combination Cooker will cook an entire meal over one burner. There are two compartments, the upper for vegetables, custards etc ., the lower for roasts, fowl or vegetables. With the false bottom between removed the utensil becomes a double capacity roaster for large roast, fowl or hams. The bottom alone with the cover ( the two pieces you are missing Jan) is an ideal dutch oven. False bottom and cover both contain the patented Drip Drop self basting feature.
The 10-1/4" dia you give is the same given in the WW catalog forty eight, which is where I read the info I posted.
 Hope this helps.

Hey Ed, sorry for the super delayed response.
Thanks very kindly for your insight. Both parts hold a magnet, so presumably aren't aluminum.  Makes sense that the bits we're missing would make a good dutch oven... probably why we ended up with the 'middle bits' and someone else has a lovely oven out there....
We don't have a lot of info yet that you more hard core folks have, like catalogs (looking into it!), so are super happy for your post. Thanks!!!
