Some big boys arrived
« on: October 02, 2014, 09:07:14 PM »
Wanted to show these off tonight. Finally bagged a Griswold #12 Tite Top DO, and just for fun, and because I liked it, I also picked up this odorless kettle. Very cool piece. It has some patent dates on the bottom for both USA  and Canada.

Hello Chuck. Those are two nice big pieces of iron for sure. What does the inside of them look like? And what kind of odorless kettle is that? I bought a beautiful odorless kettle one time, and you know that piece on the side that you can take off, you probably know what I mean. Well when it came the piece was broke because of lousy packing. I'm glad that did not happen to you Chuck. Thanks for posting these big beauties.  :)

A couple shots of the bottom for you Perry, and one of the inside. Need some seasoning , but it will get done.
I've seen the Odorless kettle like you mentions, Very nice pieces for sure. Sorry about yours' getting broken. I've been down that road myself. Not a fun place to be.

Wow Chuck, a couple of great looking pieces! Congratulations. I don't know if I have ever seen a eccentric odorless kettle like that.

Thank you Jim. That was one of the reasons I bought it. Unusual, and I've never seen one that I can remember. If I can get some patent info, I  will know what the lid looks like, and I can keep an eye open for it.

Jim you took the words right out of my post.  ;D

I was gonna say the same thing. An eccentric odorless kettle. You got a good eye Chuck. I have some eccentric kettles. The biggest one Wagner made was a number nine and they made it a loooong time ago. I got one of them. It holds 26 quarts. I also have one of the eccentric kettles that are short and in the 1895/96 Catalog that I sell and have more copies of ::) and Griswold calls it a potato kettle. There was one on ebay here while back and it had the trivet that sits down in there that is off center as well. I have never seen one of them before, only on the internet. I like kettles.  :)

The other day I 'picked up' a number six Griswold bulge kettle with the three feet that is also in that catalog that I have more copies of to sell, and the bulge kettles with legs came in sizes six, seven, eight, and nine. I need to fill now so I can have four of a kind. So I got the six and the nine and still needing the seven and eight. Hows that for a response Chuck. I'm not trying to steal your thread here. I am just thinkin out loud.  :)

Yes... it is the only one I have found so far, with that patent date...

Chuck... verify the US date... August 16, 1887

Correct??

I'll be darned. I THINK this is just like Chucks on ebay now. And look at the BS description this seller has for this piece.  ;D

Here is a picture of the ebay piece showing the patent dates.

1887 is the correct year of the US patent. The drawing show an oval kettle though. This one is round with the eccentric ring. May just be a variation from the drawing, but that a pretty significant variation. The rest of the drawing looks correct though. I know not all patent drawings are not 100% acurrate

Perry, Do you have any more copies of the 1895/1896 Griswold catalog for sale?  ;)  If so, please bring a couple to the auction on the 18th and you can sell them at the registration table.  Mike.

Nice ones!  I have two eccentric ERIE kettles and I hope to find an odorless at some point.  Looks like a pretty fancy lid in the patent drawings for yours Chuck
