Chicken Fryer Help
« on: June 07, 2014, 08:17:59 PM »
This one has me confused. It has the look of an iron mountain piece with the handle, however no pattern numbers on cover or bottom of skillet. The lid has inset “No-8”. The skillet has “Chicken Fryer No 8” and looks hand imprinted.

The lid and skillet definitely look to be a matched set. Unfortunately I did not notice the crack in the lid until after the lye bath but it will still make a great user. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, I figured that might be a possibility with this piece, had to happen sooner or later. It was a tough call as it was the most crud covered fryer I have ever seen, but I can’t walk away from a  good deal.

That doesn't look like foreign casting to me.  I think I remember someone saying these were possible Wagner after they bought out Griswold.  Don't quote me on that though.

I agree.  Harry and I have discussed this set several times and have reached the same conclusion without having any concrete evidence.

Feel free to chime in anytime, Harry.  Your mind is sharper than mine. :)

The casting for the lid is nicely done. However, the skillet has some inconsistency in thickness around the piece. I have a marked iron mountain chicken pan and the weight is within a few ounces.
