Possible Griswold Dutch Oven ID
« on: March 02, 2014, 01:55:07 PM »
I looked through my books, but I couldn't find another DO like this one.

It says "Cast Iron", "Tite-Top Dutch Oven", "Pat'd Mar 16 20", "B" on it like many other I've seen, but nowhere does it say Griswold or have the cross logo in the middle. Any ideas?

Wagner made CO using a modified Griswold pattern, after  Griswold had been bought by the same company that also owned Wagner. Most, most Griswold items will have Erie, PA on them.

Were is the lid?   Without the lid the bottom is not worth much at all.

WOW, that was cheap. I have one like that but for that money I would have bought another one. The only TRUE GRISWOLD one of these says 'Erie, Pa' on it and it has the pattern number 180 on it. When Griswold operations were merged with Wagner the pattern was modified by take the 'Erie, Pa' off and replacing the number 180 with the 310 that you see here. And then they later made ones without the Griswold name. These were made by Wagner and what I call 'partially marked', but very clearly former Griswold lettering. Hope this does not muddy the waters too much.  :-/

Thanks for the info everyone, thats perfect.

This one does include a lid exactly like the one in the eBay auction. Guy is asking $150, which seems a little high given the condition it's in. Maybe I can talk him down.

Perry,
Maybe I am showing my ignorance but would it have been worth that much ($170.00) without the cardboard box?
