Ozark #4 Skillet
« on: May 15, 2010, 04:17:21 PM »
I just picked up an Ozark #4 for $15 at a flea market (it has a 0 under the handle and a 4 on the top of the handle).  I'm not very familiar with Ozark and their quality.  It seemed to be a nice quality piece of iron - am I right?  In looking around for cast iron I seem to see many less #4's than other sizes (like #3's for example).  Are #4 skillets generally less common?  Anyway, I didn't have an Ozark or a #4 prior to today - so I'm pretty happy.  I appreciate any thoughts.

Well,  one of our members here is selling one on Ebay.

They are one of the lesser know companys.   Kinda like AMC was to Chevy and Ford.   They made pretty nice stuff.   Yes the #4 is harder to find.

Will,
Thanks for your thoughts.  I like your AMC analogy - it makes me think of the old Pacer or Eagle.  Anyway, I'm looking forward to finding more Ozark skillets - this one has a nice feel to it (and the markings are nice too).

Nice find Matt. Most #4's are less common due to the closeness in size to the #3. They weren't that much bigger, so people skipped buying them. The same can be said about #11 skillets.

Be sure to post some pics after cleaning, and seasoning. It looks like it will clean up nice. I don't know Ozark very well at all, but the way you describe it, they sound like quality iron.

I tell you what though, a #4 skillet is perfect if you like 3 eggs scrambled with a bit of cottage cheese and heavy cream, topped with shredded cheddar.  Accent that with a bit of sour cream and hot sauce and you have a low carb delight!   Probably the most used pan I have.

Reviving older thread which I'd read when deciding whether to bid on a #4 OZARK Crescent Foundry skillet.

Like Chuck said, the #4's are harder to find. I believe I have/or had a #8 Crescent.

Was thinking at the time that I had enough user skillets, well OK I do want a smooth bottom Griswold,  ::)  but anyway glad I won the bid. It's a nice piece.

I knew I should have listed a #4 large logo smooth bottom. You could have been the new owner Susan. That is a nice looking Ozark though
