Waffle Iron ID
« on: August 08, 2009, 06:32:02 PM »
I thought I saw a similar WI on the forum recently but could not find it.

Does anyone recognize the maker?

Base is marked X275 and the plates are marked X276 and X277.  There seems to be a pattern of small circles on the metal handle before the wood.

It is marked #9 and the base, on the flip side of the ball socket, has the letter S.

Mike,
Check out the page for McLary's on the foundry list. They used an X like that in their pattern numbers.
I think I see your WI there.

Yes, Chris, it sure looks like it. The handle pattern looks the same although Griswold also used the same handle pattern.

The WI shown in McLary has a piece of metal on the plates that fit with a notch on the base which is identical with mine.

I am currently in BC so it would make sense that this is a Canadian WI.

Oh well, I was hoping for an unmarked Griswold when I saw the base handle.

Mike,
I beleive the one on the page has the same part number as yours as well.

Is it safe to say that a modified griswold pattern was used. The paddles and base look very familiar

Yes it does have the same part number.  Of course now I am left with the question why does mine not have a McLary on it?

Was it one of the early ones before they put the McLary name on or was it after 1927 when it was owned by GSW?  But in that case wouldn't there be a McLary ghost mark?

Where did they get that Griswold handle from?

Aw the info I will probably never know!

Mike,  I can't answer a lot of the questions.   There just is not that much info on the company,  but I can tell you it is McClary,  not McLary as you and Chris have typed. ;)

Ha ha thanks Will.   I use to think I was good at noticing detail but I guess not any more!

Looked right at the foundries link, saw the names on the pots and iron but never twigged to the correct spelling.

That is alright.   Mozilla always says that McClary is spelled wrong anyways.
