Stover Waffle Iron Question
« on: June 21, 2006, 11:44:42 PM »
The Stover Waffle Iron has a different pattern on each side of the iron. Are there other foundries that did this or is this a Stover thing?

I've seen the Stover pattern on other irons, butI assumed they were made by Stover.  I may still have one, and if I do, I'll post it.

How many different waffle patterns (designs of the waffle) did Stover have?  I think at least two if not three.  Here is one on my No.9 marked Stover high frame with wood handles.  The other pattern, if I remember correctly would have the typical "American" pattern on one side (actually the nubs are smaller than Griswold's) while the opposite side had little "crosses" or plus signs if you can call them that.  Any other patterns??

That's interesting, Steve.  I've never seen that pattern, only the nubs and crosses.  First time I saw one I put it back... sure it was a marriage.  Of course I know better now.  Wonder what the idea was behind using different patterns as sets?

Here is the usual "Nubs & Crosses" type. In the BS&R Catalog it says the Low Bases are for Wood or Coal Stoves, and the High Bases are for Gas Stoves. Has any one else read this in any other literature? I am also very interested in why Stover and others would use different patterns for a WI? Steve on yours is the nubs on the marked Stover side? Mine is. Just courious if they stayed consistently inconsistent.

Dwayne, STOVER is marked on both irons but the little info Stove Mfg. Co. Freeport, Ill is on the nubbed side.

Griswold catalogs that have both high and low frames state low for coal and wood and high for gas and gasoline stoves.  That's pretty much universal among makers I would think.

Steve, on mine the STOVER is only on the Nub Side, the crosses side has no Logo. Yup consistently, inconsistent. :)  Also, would love to see the patterns on those other WIs.

Well, here is the outside of my Revots waffle iron to compare with your No.8 irons.  Are your handles wood and like mine?

The one with the Nubs looks just like yours. The one with the crosses only has the circles on it, no STOVER. Mine has the Alaskan style handles.

I was just reading you comments on these. Mine is a number 7 with a low base. It is marked  7 on the base of ring only but other than that it  is as Dwayne stated above.
