Gris #10 Small Logo-Grooved
« on: June 14, 2006, 05:42:50 PM »
The Blue Book lists a #10 Small Logo Grooved handle skillet- but very expensive.  The Red Book lists only up to #9- no #10.  So is this skillet out there and hard to find or were they not made?  Mike

Mike, I am so sorry that you have asked this question. You must delete it at once or your computer will self destruct in 60 seconds taking your top five pieces of cast iron with it.  ;D

Really though, that is a good question, and one I don't know the answer for, and for which there is much debate. While I don't know the answer, I will say this, its like a ghost, maybe you ain't seen one, but you know somebody that knows somebody that has, and it was real too.

Perry- Knew I probably wasn't the first to ask but hadn't seen it discussed since I've been on WAG's.  The thing is if you ever catch a ghost then you then you have to figure out what the heck your gonna do with it!! :).  But I don't reckon I know anybody who ever caught one-so doesn't seem like much of a problem to worry about. ;D

As for takin my top 5 pieces now I'm back to where I started when I found WAG's. :'( :'( Mike

Well Mike, as my memory serves me, somebody on here said there's a picture of that skillet in so and so book. However, others doubt its authenticity, in that they believe the number 10 was never made with a grooved handle. Thats the way I remember it anyway. When you're talkin handles by the way, I never seen a man that takes more note of them than Steve Stephens.

However, sometimes his knowledge stops where the handle does.  ;D

Thank you, Mike, I was gonna ask this queston for months now but forgot.  Why does it say $500?  The book is full of extra "0" mistakes but to be honest, I haven't seen one with a grooved handle.

Let's just say, this skillet does exist, or so I'm told.  If one comes up on Ebay, you better have a bid NORTH, WAY NORTH of the book price or I'll win the bid, lol.

Looks like I can forget about picking  one up on Ebay. :).  Back to looking in the 'nooks and crannies' and on my hands and knees under tables. I'll post a pic when I find one. ;D ;D ;D Mike

if they exist, there are not many, as I don't know anyone that has one.

Thanks for the compliment Perry.  Knowledge is a great thing to have and I am pleased that you know I have it.  OF COURSE everything stops sooner or later.

Mike, I think I had the No.10 grooved handle sm. tm skillet in my collection years ago.  I don't remember NOT having a full collection of each of the small TM skillet variations.  Could be wront however.  The blue book is more recently updated than the red book and that's why the groove 10 is listed there.  I always had it listed in my skillet chart in Cast Iron Cookware News and that's another reason that I do believe that I actually did have one.  A photo of the elusive pan is in Dave Smith's Kettles 'N Cookware newsletter May-June 2001 vol.10 no. 3.  Photo sent in by Jerome Cooper who I don't know.
