I bought this skillet. Just so I could find out some things. I figured ( LODGE ! ) Right for once ;D

But whats up with the sides of the pan? why the rings? What do they do? And why the # 3 under the lifting tab? I thought lodge used A 1/4 sized letter? It does not show in the pic ( i tried to show it with pen) ,,,, ( didnt work) ,,,,That skillet has A very pronounced flare on the side walls. If its A 6 At the bottom. It is A 7 at the top?

Captain of the spelling team I aint  ;D But I think I got pronounced close enough so u know what I mean!

What rings Brian?  Do you mean the half moons on the bottom?  They would act as a heat moon.  Since this isn't a "regular skillet" it won't conform to what they look like.  I guess we'd have to have a door to the inside of Lodge's thoughts when they designed this pan.  It is different for sure.  The little 3 under the tab handle is the letter 'three'.   Just a pattern number used the same way that pattern letters were used; to denote one similiar pattern from the others; at least that's my take on it-really a guess on my part.  Still, it's about the same size or THE same size as the raised Lodge letters and it's raised, too.

They are shaped more like a crescent moon than half moon. I like the design.

Steve
I assumed the moon rings were A sort of heat ring.

I am wondering about the rings near the top lip of the skillet and why there is the flared side walls?

My guess Brian is that the rings and flared walls are "style".  Only a guess.  Other than that I have no idea.
