Any One have any idea as to who made this grill?
« on: August 19, 2005, 08:42:47 PM »
I ran across this grille and I was wondering does any one know who made it and also how the 4 short legs were used ? You will notice it has pat. date Feb 26, 1878...also has a gate mark on bottom and is made so that grease will drain in the sides, with pour lips to drain grease. Any info is appreciated... Below are some pics...... ;D

It's another form of a broiler and a nice one.  Have seen a few of them but not common and I don't know the maker.  The legs may have been to keep the greasy bottom of the pan slightly off the stovetop or counter.  Nice find.

So Darell, you think it was a piece of junk? Welllllllll people on Ebay didnt think so and I received many emails about it and also more than 1 person bid...there again , goes to show different people DEFINE RARE ...DIFFERENT... also it sold for more than my reserve so I dont think a sucker bought it...if it hadnt sold I woulda put it with what little collection I have left... ;D

Shearylon,

Far from it, I was just being facetious.  I thought it was a very good example of the inventiveness our immediate ancestors showed.  Unfortunately, my funds are presently limited to putting together a couple more skillet collections so I couldn't bid.

I know what you mean Darell...if I had not needed some extra funds I woulda held on to the broiler myself..I like old items that you dont see a lot of...Brian said he wanted it, but it was too late by the time he spoke up...I would have been glad to sell it to him.. ;D

That is A nice piece of iron in almost any collectors eyes. Personaly I think it went to cheap. If I had of auctioned it the reserve would have been 200.00!

I thought maybe you bought it Darrel! I could tell you were joking. I just figured you were rubbing it into me that you got the pan! ;D
