Griswold #10 Worth $55?
« on: June 10, 2017, 11:44:03 PM »
Inside was a bit rustier than the outside. It is at an antique store but sitting outside in the weather. I walked away because I don't pay that much but it keeps calling to me.

Keep walking away... the handle is damaged.....

For me that destroys the value in the lid....

Thanks. I guess sometimes you just need another opinion.

The other thing that my eyes picked up on is the Bail on the Dutch Oven...
It appears that the bail on the bottom half of the DO is damaged (most likely thru loss or 'tempering', which is a BIG flag for potential fire cleaning/fire damage to the DO)....  >:( >:(

I've purchased a couple of pieces which were in terrible shape. It's always because the temptation of seeing a piece for the first time is more than my good sense can handle. After I get in home and clean it up, I'm disappointed every time. Walk away.

[size=12]The fact that the owner of the antique store didn't even see fit to give it a roof over its head should immediately tell you something, too.  Also, if it lives on a rough concrete slab and gets accidentally kicked by every twelfth visitor, the bottom probably isn't too pretty anymore, even if you already had a nice lid somewhere else to put with it.
