I've seen them around before, but not sure who the maker is. I'm thinking it may be from over seas. I hope not though. It's not a bad piece. Let's see what others say.

WELL, I think its got drip rings on the lid, like maybe a Favorite, but I don't think its Favorite, it might be a CH, but I don't remember raised letters on any of their pieces, it does have distinctive handles, it ain't Asian, it might be Lodge.  :-/

I thought we had some discussion about this "large pattern" hammered iron before and it was thought to be Chicago Hardware. I'm with Perry on this, it just looks too nice to be from Asia.

Just the sheer wieght of the piece, and how thick that walls are, kinda points towards Asia. CHF did a much better casting job on their products. I've seen other pieces with this hammered pattern, and they are extremely bulky. The CHF that I've seen is just a much better quality. Asian or not, let's see what it looks like all cleaned up, and seasoned. I hope you can post some pictures of it when it's done Louis.

The weight "casts" my biggest doubts here. It looks too nice to be Asian but it sounds too heavy to be domestic iron. I was only guessing by some things I've read. I collect only Griswold so I'm certainly no authority.

My two cents are that it seems to me that all of the CHF items are very clearly marked with numbers??  I might be wrong here but so feel free to call me out.

Louis, You might want to read this thread as well as the one that links from it.  They're both about DO's the same as yours.
