How do you clean the crust out of the inside of aluminum teapot?
« on: November 05, 2017, 09:33:11 AM »
Last night I started trying to clean the Griswold teapot I recently found. I tried two different methods. First I boiled a vinegar solution in it. (Maybe about a quarter vinegar to water). I only boiled it for about ten minutes and then let it soak for an hour. Then I scrubbed it with a Chore Boy. That removes some of it. Then I tried using Cream of Tarter. This time I brought it to a boil for about 5 minutes and then let it simmer for an hour before letting it soak for awhile.

I forgot to take “before” pics. Here’s what it looks like now. The sides, especially, still have a thick layer of crust.

Should I keep doing the Cream of Tarter method over and over until it’s clean? My oldest daughter is a big hot tea drinker. I would love to get this one clean enough for her to actually use.

Here’s another teapot I need to clean. This one is a Griswold Colonial style. I used Cream of Tarter on it once, but it didn’t make much of a dent in the buildup, so I set the pot aside for later. With Christmas approaching, I’d like to get one, or both, of these restored as a present for my daughter.
