Well I can def see the advantage of doing it outside in warm weather and not keeping a 500 degree oven going for hours inside. I've never tried it with my SS Jen-aire grill..I'll have to check it out.  ;)

This discussion is about seasoning. Or loosing the seasoning. Let's not over think seasoning. It's nothing but carbonized oil on the surface of the utensil. Think about when you over cook or burn something when cooking and it won't come off easy. Give the pan a long soak then it's easier to clean. You can loose the seasoning (something you want to stay on) the same way. Over scrubbing and/or letting something moist stay too long will do the same thing. Seasoning is not a permanent thing unless you use some care and thought.
