Toy Stove Restoration Opinions Wanted
« on: December 19, 2007, 03:07:35 PM »
Hi All! I finally got my ATF toy stove and would like opinions on if I should leave it alone, paint it, or any other suggestions. :) I am trying to get the photos posted here but having a hard time :-/ I took the photos with a #3 skillet for size comparison ;D It has some great parts to it. I am a complete novice, so it anyone has any info or comments on this stove or it's parts I'd love to hear! Ed gave me some great information on it in another thread when I was thinking about getting it - thanks Ed!
Also, there is an extra side piece I can't find a spot for - I'll try to get the photos posted.
Thanks all!

Well, I thought I got the photo's as small as I could, but I guess not. Any help in posting the photos here, or what programs are suggested for resizing would also be helpful!GRRRRR!
Thank you!

Marylou, I use picasa.  I resized it for you.

Thanks Roger! I just downloaded Picasa yesterday and the smallest it gave me to 'resize to' was 320, but it still wouldn't let me post.  What should it be sized to?

I resize them to 600 x 400.

Marylou, forget about my IM. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I can resize it too, just not as good as Roger though. I don't know picaso so I send the picture to me from this site and that downsizes it. Long way around, but it works.  :-/

Thats a nice looking stove Marylou. Looks like you did good and then some for sure.  ;)

OK, I'll try another one or 2 - I am missing something in Picaso2 to find how to resize to 600 x 400 - It will only let me go to 360 pixels. Thanks for your help if it doesn't work! To paint or not to paint ;D

The stove book was right about the ATF resembling Crescent stoves. My personnel preference is to leave the stove original as possible. This one don't look bad to me. If anything try a small spot of mineral oil on the back or bottom and see if you like that look before oiling the whole stove. It will give it a nice shine and prevent any further rusting. You don't want oil all over it if you decide to paint it. The toy cookware marked at all?

Thanks Ed! I like the mineral oil idea, I think that's what I'll do :) The toys have the #110 on them, but the iron and trivet don't have anything on them.

Well Marylou, its marked all over. Its made by a company out of Philadelphia. From what I have gathered they went out of business shortly after 1900. We'll have to defer to Ed again Marylou, he's the one with the book you know. I'll get the name and then I'll put it in this post. All I can think of is Abbott and Costello, that ain't it, but its close I do believe. The stove was made by Abbott and Noble.

Little Willie was made by Abbott & Noble, Philadelphia.  The book I have does not have anything else.
