ID an odd lid please ????

Ok, so I know what I found, haha. But I am not sure what I found ??? Is it Wagner or ????. Thats the first part of the story. Then the rest of the story after we ID the lid.

The lid appears to be consistent with a Wagner Round Roaster lid, the knob handle... not so much. 

Any markings visible?

If unmarked, may have been produced for a third party seller,  by Wagner....

Only the number "9" inscribed there at the 5 oclock position.

That looks like a Wagner turtleback lid that originally had a nickel plated knob. I think someone replaced it with that odd looking thing. Would have been easy to do given the screw.

Here's a link to what I'm talking about, with the original plated whistle knob. Had one once, sold it. There's another one on ebay right now where some one replaced the original knob with one made of wood. So, what's the rest of the story, lol?

Whistle knob ?  That is not a "whistle knob, from what I see. It is a knob designed with a hollowed out center to help keep the knob cool. Those terms are usually used by sites on facebook (aka: "facebook facts") , and sellers. How would a knob like that "whistle"?, given there is no opening into the lid ? Another term that has been butchered thanks to social media. Not aware that Wagner ever used such a term.(if they did, would love to see that)

Think it is important that since History is based on fact, we strive to keep things in their proper context (prefer to use the terms used in that particular time frame), and refer to items as it was then.  This is the Patent for a Dutch Oven cover, on the particular handle- that is what Wagner called it ( many call "knob") . Well gee, guys, I'm just so sorry for not being exact. Folks call it that to distinguish it from all the other knobs. But hey, we can't all be perfect.

Frank, If I seemed to come on as a "smart aleck", I apologize. This comes from a person who at one time thought a bottom gate mark was a real good welding repair job ! 99% of what I gained in cast iron knowledge, I got right here from members(dues paying) their research, and their post.
To me, it seems that so much of the info here has been stolen and ended up on face book (space book ) and other personal cast iron web sites built strictly for personal gain in their wallets !

All good, Duke. I was just trying to help him find an example of the proper handle for that cover so he could see it. I knew using that term would bring them up. Using the term handle--not so much. Same with the term turtle back. I'm sure that's not what Wagner called that cover, but that term will bring up lots of examples without working too hard.

No offense intended, simply stated facts. What one does with those, surely is their choice. Sometimes giving facts is akin to walking on eggshells...some take that the wrong way.
