Weather In Texas!!!
« on: February 14, 2021, 05:14:06 PM »
I have got ice cycles 3" round and 2 foot long hanging off the edge of my roof! That is north of the Mason Dixon Line stuff and ain't normal for here! We have ice locked in plumb to the Gulf Of Mexico. I figure most saw the 150 vehicle pile up south of Ft Worth! Truck Driver driving TOO FAST! Momentum after impact showed that! Forecast say might be as late as Thursday before we get above freezing :-[ Freezing sleet/drizzle now.

Duke, we have only been getting freezing/frozen precip for about an hour and a half, but it's really slick on the porch and steps. Temp is at 27, with a NNE wind  that cuts to the bone.  Our dogs took one look out of the door, gave me a really hurt look and refused to go outside.  Can't blame them.  Good luck and stay warm.

Duke I know what you mean.  We are getting a lot of snow right now and it's 9 degrees right now.  Greg, you can have this stuff.   ;D  I took this video earlier.   It's been snowing every since and isn't supposed to stop till 4am.   :o

:D Sandy we aren't set up for this kind of weather.  The only radiators we have are under the hood of the car.  Our house is all electric.  Thankful to have a real fireplace.  We've had it going strong.

This type of weather really makes me appreciate August all that much more. My front porch thermometer reads 15 degrees right now.
That's as cold as it was in '89, when we had our last big ice/snow storm.
I was in the Nashville area in '87, '88, and '89 for the Saturn boom. I saw all of this white stuff in those 27 months to last me a lifetime.
Kudos to all the members that deal with this type of weather every year.  I would have moved South to a warmer climate long ago.

Be safe.  Doesn't look good for TX.

Worcester, MA, just west of here, is the snowiest city in the U.S. again this year.

https://www.masslive.com/worcester/2021/02/worcester-ranks-as-snowiest-city-in-us-after-noreaster-drops-14-inches-on-central-massachusetts.html

It doesn't seem that I've received 4 1/2 feet of snow. Wonder if that is because ...

1. We've lived here for 18 years. My town averages 5 1/2 feet of snow. Have I just gotten used to that amount of snow annually?

2 After 120" snow in a month in 2015, Does the average annual amount now seem "ho hum?"

3. After 36" snow, then four additional weekends of 20" snowfalls in 2015, does lower amounts that add up not even get my attention. I used to think a foot of snow was a lot. It now takes more than 20" to get my attention.  Needs to be higher than the front of the snowblower to make me think it's a lot of snow now.

4. Although Worcester is just west of us, I think the precipitation readings are taken at the airport which is in the very western part of the city at higher elevation. My town is not far from Worcester, but I am on the very eastern border. Although the cities are close, I am as far from the reading location as I can get.

Texans are tough but this weather sucks. I remember all the snow we used to get in MA so 8 here in OH is nothing

However the temp walking the dog this morning was -2F. I should be in Fiji this time if year but this damn COVID19 has me stuck to the cold weather this year. I hate it!!

At 6;30 yesterday, my thermometer on the porch read 11.  Today it was 31.  Reads 41 right now. Most of the ice and snow have melted because of the steady rain that started about 7:15.  It is supposed to refreeze tonight, so tomorrow looks like more of the same.
Fiji does sound mighty good about now. Or maybe Oahu.

Hey you Texans... I hope you don't think I was making light of your situation.  I know this weather has you in dire straits especially since you aren't used to it.
Stay safe and try your best to stay warm.

Hope all our Texas WAGS family are staying safe and warm.  Hopefully you are starting to thaw out.  My son, in Comanche, TX, had broken water pipes in both his house and his restaurant.  Looks like he is starting repairs today.  I won't talk about the weather in sunny Southern California, but it's been cold....had to put on a sweatshirt when going out to do errands.  Y'all stay safe and take care.

Our son in Temple TX finally got power this morning. First time since Monday morning. He has to TRY and make it to work at the hospital Friday morning. 7 miles on ice. Temple School Dist has been moving by bus nursing home residents to warming stations around town. Most counties are under boil order notice. HARD freeze warning tonight for everything north of Houston. A PIPE BUSTER  WITH THE BIG SNOW LAST MONTH, BEEN A ROUGH 40 DAYS!

Had a -4 one morning.  Power finally stayed on today.  This weather needs to stay up North.
